Our second album Gold On The Horizon is a collection of songs recorded at Flora Recording & Playback in Portland Oregon with producer Tucker Martine. It was a special time and we feel very lucky to have been able to do it.

Gold On The Horizon - Signed test pressing of Gold On The Horizon 12" Vinyl

Gold On The Horizon - Signed test pressing of Gold On The Horizon 12" Vinyl

A test pressing is the first opportunity to hear Gold On The Horizon in an analog format. Test pressings are made in very limited numbers and are used to check the quality of the sound transfer onto the wax. This is a one off process and there will only ever be one set of test pressings, we are making a maximum of 10.

This is option number 1 and very nearly became the final image. it was taken by Tom Oxley when we arrived in New York at the start of our tour. The plane we had been on was hugely delayed having crashed on take off into a barrier (while we were reversing no one was hurt except the pilot's pride). We landed and as we came through security Tom was immediately escorted into an interrogation lounge by the CIA on account of him having been placed a red list for recent travellers through Syria (he had shot stills on a documentary). As we finally crossed the bridge into New York Tom took this shot with the sun coming up and the trip we had been planning for a year could finally begin.

Image #2 is a photo taken in a motel in a place called Harrisonburg. Tom and I set off from New York where it had been boiling hot, incredibly humid and pretty smelly if I'm honest. We were quite pleased to pick up the hire car and turn on the AC and not at all intimidated by the long drive ahead. We didn't have anywhere booked to stay that night but the plan was to make it to the Blue Ridge Mountains for sunset. We didn't make it. The weather changed from sunny to thunderstorms almost as soon as we paid the toll on the New Jersey Turnpike and it was slow going from there on. We lost signal on our phones and by the time we decided to stop we didn't know where we were, it was raining too hard and we were knackered. We pulled into a very sketchy looking motel and went to see if they had a room. The lady on the desk asked us about our accents and we had a nice chat. She wanted to know why we'd stopped in Harrisonburg and we explained we were aiming for sunset at the Blue Ridge Mountains but we'd been slow getting there and just wanted to sleep now and try again tomorrow, we thought it would be a few hours drive tomorrow. The Lady laughed and pointed out of the window, she said if it wasn't dark we would be able to see the Blue Ridge up there and it was a 10 minute drive to the top. She also told us up there sunrise was far better than sunset so we decided to stay awake and head up to the mountain in a few hours for sunrise. This picture was taken while we waited in our room.

The final choice for the record cover was this photograph taken just before the sun came up on the Blue Ridge Mountains overlooking the Shenandoah River. We decided that the best plan was to drive up and find a good spot before sunrise so we packed the car and followed the signs. We waited in a small dark parking area on what we thought was the eastern side of the mountains. It turned out to be the wrong side and moments after this picture we jumped back into the car and raced around to the other side.
